POLICY ON THE ENVIRONMENT
Golden Star is committed to meeting or surpassing regulatory requirements in all of its exploration, development, mining and closure activities while safeguarding the local environment for local communities and future generations. Golden Star therefore will:
- Ensure that our leaders and managers are committed to creating a culture that makes environmental matters an integral part of the short and long term operations and performance management systems;
- Ensure that our employees and contractors understand and accept environmental policies and procedures as a fundamental part of the business;
- Establish operating standards that meet or exceed any relevant laws and regulations, our environmental impact statements, environmental management plans and closure plans; and any international protocols to which we are a signatory;
- Incorporate environmental policies and procedures into all contracts and enforce them;
- Provide training to employees and contractors in environmental matters;
- Implement effective environmental policies, procedures and management systems;
- Regularly prepare, review and update site specific environmental management and closure plans that include consultation with local communities and regulators;
- Ensure that disturbed areas are rehabilitated progressively and in conformance with the site specific environmental management and closure plans;
- Consult local communities and regulators to provide us with input to our environmental management policies and procedures;
- Identify measurable objectives and targets that will drive continuous improvement necessary to pursue incident-free operating activities;
- Review our environmental performance on a regular basis; and
- Publicly report environmental performance.
