On 24 April, the Women’s Committee of the Ghana Mine Workers’ Union Branch at Golden Star Wassa hosted the Empowered Miners Summit under the theme, Driving Productivity Through Inclusion and Bold Advocacy.

The event brought together women from across Golden Star and its contractor companies in an impressive show of participation and unity. Women from different departments and experience levels came together for open conversations on their role in mining, personal development, workplace inclusion, and professional growth.

A key highlight of the summit was the panel discussion session, where seasoned professionals shared personal experiences, practical lessons, and career guidance. The discussions gave participants the opportunity to engage frankly on issues affecting women in mining while exploring solutions that can strengthen their growth and impact within the industry.

Vida Brewu from the Ghana Mine Workers’ Union also provided guidance on legal protections, workplace policies, and advocacy tools available to support women.

Rebecca Appiah from the Community Department said empowering women strengthens both people and performance.
“When women are supported to grow and lead, productivity improves and workplaces become stronger,” she said.

Representing management, Boatemaa Hammond from the Corporate Affairs Department encouraged participants to continue building their confidence, supporting one another, and making the most of opportunities for growth.

“It is always encouraging to see women come together to share, learn, and support each other. Conversations like these are important for personal growth, stronger teams, and a more inclusive workplace,” she said.

Beyond the discussions, the summit ended with shared resolutions focused on supporting continuous learning, encouraging participation, and promoting greater inclusion for women across all levels of the company.
