Golden Star Wassa’s newly appointed Chairman, Mr. Tony Zhang, has officially begun direct engagement with one of the company’s most important stakeholder groups, its host communities.

In a strong demonstration of Golden Star’s values and respect for Ghanaian culture and responsible mining, Mr. Zhang, who also serves as Head of Operations for Chifeng Gold, led the Wassa leadership team on a working visit to the traditional leaders of Mamponso and Wassa Fiase on 22 April 2026.

The visit formally introduced Mr. Zhang to the traditional authorities. During the engagements, Mr. Zhang shared updates on key development projects currently underway, including initiatives at Adoikrom, Father Brown, and other operational areas.

He noted that these projects represent positive progress not only for Golden Star, but also for surrounding communities through job creation, contractor opportunities, and increased demand for local goods and services.

“Community and external relations are not secondary to our success, they are central to it,” Mr. Zhang emphasized. “The strength of our relationship with traditional authorities and host communities directly influences the long-term success of our operations.”
In response, Nana Abena Konadjoa II, Paramount Queenmother of the Wassa Fiase Traditional Area, commended Golden Star for its strong support for host communities over the years. She emphasized that youth employment and skills development remain top priorities for traditional authorities. She urged the company to keep these areas central to its efforts to strengthen peaceful coexistence and shared prosperity.
Speaking on behalf of the company, Mr. Gerard Boakye, Deputy Director, Corporate Affairs, acknowledged the concerns raised by traditional leaders and reaffirmed Golden Star’s commitment to addressing them.

“Golden Star understands the concerns of our traditional authorities and remains committed to resolving them through dialogue, partnership, and action,” he said. “We encourage our stakeholders to continue taking advantage of the company’s open-door policy and related systems so we can work together effectively.”
Also present during the visit were Mr. George Nutor, General Manager; Mr. Chen Shuai, CEO; Mr. Charles Dong from Chifeng Gold Headquarters; Mr. Peter Addai, Manager for Community Relations and GSOPP; and Mr. Nathaniel Quaw from the Community Relations Department.

Golden Star Wassa remains a key development partner within its host communities, with ongoing investments in health, education, infrastructure, and socio-economic empowerment. These efforts reflect the company’s belief that sustainable corporate growth must go hand in hand with the development of its people and communities.
