WATER SUPERVISORS IN GOLDEN STAR WASSA HOST COMMUNITIES PARTICIPATE IN WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT TRAINING PROGRAMME
2024-April-04

On 16 March 2024, Golden Star Wassa Limited (GSWL), represented by ten people from its host communities, took part in a community-based water resource management programme at the University of Mines and Technology.

The ten people, who are also supervisors of mechanised water systems in GSWL host communities were drawn from Akyempim, Togbekrom, Kubekro and Old Subri.

GSWL participation in the training programme is in line with our commitment to SDG 6 and a demonstration of our focus on surpassing regulatory compliance when it comes to issues on water and environment.

The training which was organised by the University of Mines and Technology in collaboration with the Water Resources Commission (Ankobra Basin Secretariat) had participants from AngloGold Ashanti Mine and Goldfields.

It equipped participants with comprehensive knowledge and skills in managing water resources, with a focus on community-based approaches to address various aspects of water management, including sources of water, water quality, infrastructure management, stakeholder engagement, climate change impacts, and legal frameworks.

In addition, the training program provided a comprehensive platform for participants to enhance their understanding of water management principles and practices through expert presentations, interactive sessions, field tours and examinations.

Giving his thoughts on the event, Mr. Peter Addai Community Relations and GSOPP Manager at Golden Star Wassa Ltd said “Water remains a critical resource for human existence and development, trainings such as this empowers custodians of water systems to deliver on their mandate in an efficient way”.

With the skills and insights acquired from the training, communities in Golden Star Wassa can effectively address challenges that may come up with water management in the communities.
